ABOUT BAGAN
The main tourist destination in Myanmar is Bagan, capital of the first Myanmar Empire; one of the richest archaeological sites in South-east Asia.  Situated on the eastern bank of the Ayeyawaddy River, it is located in the dry central plains of the country.  The Magic of Bagan has inspired visitors to Myanmar for nearly 1000 years.  Bagan covers an area of 42sq km containing over 2000 well-preserved pagodas and temples of the 11th-13th century.  An earthquake on 08 July 1975 severely damaged more than half of the structures and destroyed many of them.  Bagan’s importance lies in its heritage rather than its present and is the most ideal destination for tourists to visit regardless of the time of the year.  It does not experience a rainy season and has the perfect climate that enables tourists to discover and explore the ancient city with ease all year round.  The region is also famous for lacquerware.
